News for the JOAD's at
Trosper Archery Club
Letter from Jane to the
JOAD Kids
and Mom's and Dad's
Trosper Archery Club has reached out to the archers of tomorrow in establishing a National-Archery-Association-certified Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD use this link for more information) Club for archers eighteen and under.
Trosper JOAD Club will meet at the Indoor Range at 10:00 a.m., Saturdays, unless there is a tournament scheduled for that weekend.
The JOAD Program provides boys and girls with an opportunity to learn to shoot and win awards for achievement in shooting, as well as opportunities to compete with others their age.
The NAA's JOAD Clubs have contributed significantly to filling our U. S. Olympic Archery Teams, since many recent U.S. Olympic team members began shooting as JOAD Club members.
Adult leaders are needed to work with NAA-certified coaches Gary Adair, Cameron Potter and Jane Johnson in developing Oklahoma's future gold medalists. Contact Gary Adair at (405) 721 7596 to take part in this exciting project.
Many thanks,
Jane, Gary, & Cameron
National Archery in Schools
Program
The National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) began
in Kentucky in 2002 and was introduced to Oklahoma schools in 2005
by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife.
The program features include a two-week archery program in physical
education classes, as well as a curriculum including science,
literatureand history aspects of archery. Using the Genesis Bow
made by Matthews, teachers can easily set up a safe archery range in
the school gym. Educators say that school attendance is up and
student behavior improves
when archery is introduced. Other side effects of the program
include
increased sales of archery equipment and after school archery clubs.
The Oklahoma Wildlife Department sponsored a state archery
championship tournament at the Wellness Center of the University of
Central Oklahoma( UCO) in spring of 2005. Over 200 archers in
middle school and high school participated in the inaugural event.
Trosper Club members Mike Atwell, Fred Hockett and Jane Johnson were among the volunteer officials during the tournament.
